Apples & Oranges 1-5

Sunny and beautiful again today! Here in nut country I guess I should have titled today's entry Pistachios and Pecans.

We looked at two very different properties today. We had high hopes for the one property up in the canyon but in spite of some needed fixes having been done to the house there are still a LOT of things that are wrong and that is just what we CAN see…it also lacks easy trailer access and has no carport, garage or shop. It was a very different design, but was really misrepresented by the listing agent, the reality rarely seems to match the glossy fliers.

The second, for being ten acres felt surprisingly close to its neighbors, but the home was nice though a 14 year old manufactured home…and it had a mile of rocky road that crosses two washes…garbage pickup could be an issue…laugh! It would be a great place if I still had a horse…but don’t see that happening again in this lifetime.

Manufactured homes are very prevalent here, but the odd thing for us is we know that they depreciate as soon as they are planted on the property and continue to do so, but the prices here don’t seem to reflect that…we wouldn’t have a problem with it if we knew we were buying at a fair price or if financial institutions treated them like site built…especially those that are 2x6 construction and tape and textured.

We have two favorites right now, both manufactured homes but in very different locations with different acreages…one is about 2.5 acres and the other is 10 acres…one is within sight and sound of the highway and the other is far away from the highway, but closer to the rock quarry…different kinds of noise. The older one I actually like the floor plan of better, but the new one has a couple of workshops (though we haven’t seen inside them yet) and backs to an orchard, so green trees that we wouldn’t have to take care of….smile.

We hope that in the next week or so the perfect place will present itself or we’ll decide we have already found it….time will tell, but my brain is wearing out with all this pro’ing and con’ing (I doubt those are words, but you get my point).

It was warm enough today and the breeze was teeny so we sat out in the sun for awhile…Larry reading and me knitting and I did a couple loads of laundry. We also went to the library and I mailed off Seth’s scarf, another nice day on our journey.

Oh, how well I understand the pro-ing and con-ing! It is wonderful when you have someone to bounce the ideas off! I'm sure you'll find just the right place....and you do seem to be taking your time with the looking and pondering! Good luck with it all.
