Keeping busy! 4-27

Seth stayed over Saturday night with us. On our walk in the park on Sunday he decided he would be our dog and played fetch with a stick...crazy boy. He impressed us with his attempts at reading...he works really hard at sounding out words and does really well for only five.

After we took Seth home Michelle made us shrimp, vegetable, and meat skewers that Darel barbecued for dinner.
On our way back and forth to the kids there are a few homes that have wonderful pink dogwood trees in bloom. This one is a couple stories tall and
dwarfs the house.

We had quite the storm last night and off and on today with short peaks of sunshine. I have been working on another knit throw and Larry has been doing geneaology research. Today I made spaghetti sauce, pasta, salad and garlic bread and delivered it over to the kids for dinner.

And last...more tulips from our day last week.

More Tulips 4-24

Today we returned the memory foam mattress topper we bought 3 days ago...toxic, nasty, smelly thing...it was really comfortable, but the smell was awful, I would wake in the night and could taste that smell, yuck...I felt like we were rolling in petroleum toxicity, which we were. Every day I would try to get it to air out but it didn't help.

We have Seth for the night tonight. More tulip photos!

Mostly pictures! 4-23

Here are pictures of Seth and Michelle from yesterday, also a shot of the Willamette River in Corvallis.

Today we went to the Tulip fields in Woodburn. I took 170 or so pictures so these are just a few....after I get the rest edited I'll post more!

Strolling Corvallis 4-22

Yesterday's big event was getting my hair cut...picture is at the end. Today we went to Corvallis to get the trucks tires rotated and balanced. While that was getting done we walked around downtown Corvallis and along the Willamette River. We strolled through a few of the shops and sat outside enjoying wonderful scones at a great bread bakery. This oriental poppy was the biggest we have ever seen, about 8 inches across. We liked the moving art...the geese that would rotate in the wind, there was just a slight breeze so they didn't move much. All these pictures were taken while on our stroll today. Tonight we went over to the kids, we had dinner together, went to the park after dinner and then had Larry's strawberry cobbler...yummy.

From Arcata to Albany 4-17

We had a nice travel day yesterday. We hit the road about 8:30. It was drizzly and cloudy all up the coast and the sun came out as we headed north and inland along 199 from Crescent City. And oddly enough it got warmer the further north we went, but then the day was getting along too and the sun was out. Spring up here in Oregon is really beautiful…lots of beautiful gardens, the crab apple trees and tulips are blooming and the rhodies are just getting started. I’m sure I’ll get a few pictures =).
We stopped at the big beach just south of Crescent City for our toast around ten, it was drizzling a bit but the wind wasn’t blowing which was nice. I took a little walk along the beach while Larry was on the phone and found my heart shaped rock…I find them everywhere and have a collection of them from all over the place. Sadly there was one in Colorado that I had to leave behind, it was pink and about the size of a basketball…I still regret not getting it….anyway I digress.
The Jedediah Smith Redwoods are just stunning to drive through…one of these days we’ll have to camp at the campground there. The road is windy and narrow in places and with towing the trailer we were going slow enough that even in the low light I was able to get a few decent shots of the forest. The rivers are all very full with all the good rain and traveling north I was able to enjoy the Smith River…it was the most stunning blue and so clear you could see the rocks on the bottom and there were multiple waterfalls along the hillsides flowing into the river all along the way. It was on my side of the road for most of the way. We haven’t been on that road very much and we were thinking this was maybe the first time in this direction and certainly the first in the spring.
As we passed into Oregon the sun was out and stayed that way the rest of the day! We picked up I-5 at Grants Pass and headed on north to Albany. Everything was blindingly green and wildflowers and blooming trees were everywhere. We got to Albany at 4:30 and got ourselves set up and then went over to Michelle and Darel’s…Seth, as always was very happy to see us. We visited for a bit, loaded up Seth and his stuff and headed back home as Seth was spending the night. With him in school all week we have to get in the overnighters while we can!
It was 340 miles from Arcata to Albany…a long travel day for us, but was a nice one. We always feel bad cruising by and not stopping at Uncle Marty and Aunt Millie’s, but they are just far enough off the highway and with the trailer it’s just not feasible to stop…plus we always seem to be going against the clock. Even us footloose people have timetables…shocking but true. So hello you two…we were thinking of you!
