More Old Auburn Pics 2-22

I loose track of the days sometime. I don't remember when I last blogged and forgot to look...oh well. Saturday we visited our friends and had a great day visiting and grazing, had the BEST chinese food for dinner. All the trees were in bloom, mostly white and yellow blooms and daffodils are busting out all over.

Yesterday it was cold and rainy, it cleared by the end of the day and last night was really cold, down into the 30's, today was sunny and a little warmer. The big event of today was laundry...I miss my own laundry room.

These pictures are from the Auburn courthouse....the women's jail was under the north stairs of the courthouse...cozy. The rest of the pictures are of Old Town Auburn.

Finished the Square project 2-19

I finished this very fun, colorful afghan today...it didn't take me as long as I thought it would to do and it turned out really well. I have to look back but I think it was about a month minus the week of waiting for the yarn so I could finish...apparently I wasn't on gauge...oh well.

My flowers are still evolving too, the lillies started opening today...I love flowers even cut and in a vase!

It was foggy, cloudy and cooler today, but we had a good walk.

Spring is flowering 2-18

Whew, I was getting ready to shut the computer down for the night when I remembered that I hadn't blogged today. I received my shipment of yarn yesterday evening and I have worked all day on getting this afghan finished...I would have had it finished a week ago, so I forgot to go through and edit my pictures of yesterday's excursion to old Auburn.
Today we took a little drive and the trees around here have really popped out their blooms and the daffodils are making their appearance. Hope you are seeing spring wherever you are!

Enjoying the Sun 2-17

Today was sunny and warm and as the weather will be going back to winter this weekend and as far as we can tell will go for at least 10 days being gray and rainy we went exploring. We went to see the old Historic Courthouse. You can see it from the highway and is very stately looking...amazing to think it had gotten into such a state of disrepair that tearing it down was considered. Its foundation is huge granite blocks and for a foundation it was beautiful. The rest of the building was beautiful also. There is a museum of Auburn history inside, the old Sheriff office is restored and on display and there are beautiful displays of local indian basket weaving and leather work. It is also still a working courthouse, though I believe there are other court venues too, we just didn't search them out today.
We then walked around old historic Auburn and had a wonderful lunch at the Brewery. It was a busy area and must be a crazy zoo in the summer, but it was nice to see so many of the old buildings still in use. It was a strong contrast to Tombstone, AZ, where it seemed most all the old buildings have been remodeled inside with sheetrock or wall board and only looked historical on the outside...sadly a commercial tourist trap. Auburn has done a great job of restoring and maintaining its history.
I have more pics, but these are all I'm posting today and I didn't even make them prettier.
Andrea and her family went up to visit Michelle's family this past weekend and I put in a Grandma order for a picture of the three Grandson's all together. What a handsome trio...Ian is 7 and in the red shirt, his half brother Connor is the 3.5 month cutie baby, (Andrea's) and Seth in yellow is 5 1/2 and is Michelle's. I love Connor's look...it is saying, Really?

Beautiful Flowers 2-16

My sweetie couldn't decide between the bouquet of red roses and the spring bouquet so he brought both of them home and I arranged them all together...stunning!
Today was laundry day and working on yarn projects...it was mostly sunny again and we were able to open all the windows and door for awhile.
I cut Larry's hair today too, so now he is all pretty again.

Six Years on the Road!!!! 2-15

The first pic is 2004, leaving Chester.

The second and third are Yuma, AZ.

The fourth is Livingston, TX, north of Houston.
The fifth we were at the house in Fallon, NV fixing it up.
The sixth we were back in Yuma and the seventh is where we are now...El Dorado county, Northern California.
Boy does the time fly by! It was six years ago today that we drove away from our Chester home where we had lived quite happily for 14 years and hit the road to see the country and live full time in our RV.
We have been north and south, east and west…we went as far east as we could go, to the outer banks of North Carolina and paddled around in the Atlantic Ocean. It has been a fun six years…we have seen a lot and learned a lot…woo hoo!

For fun I pulled out pictures of where we were on each of our traveling anniversaries
the last six years.

A Springy Winter Day 2-14

Ah, I have so missed seeing all the flowers and green in February! Living fourteen years in snow country where, if you were lucky, you might see a daffodil blooming in the mud and snow slush as early as April and sometimes still saw snow on your blooming trees in May and the past six years being all over the place and most often still in the desert it is refreshing!

The day before yesterday outside of a feed store where they had feeders in the tree, the tree was decorated for spring with colorful Gold Finches…there were about a hundred of them at one time.

Yesterday we drove to Citrus Heights to visit family that we hadn’t seen in about 20 years…our own fault…and along the way the redbuds and other trees were starting to bloom, the mustard and even a few patches of California Poppies.

Today the sun was out for most of the day and we drove down 49…got held up by hundreds of bikers holding up traffic, breaking the law and in one steady unending stream made illegal left turns onto 49 at a T intersection, holding up traffic along 49 in both directions for almost 10 minutes. You don’t mind waiting for a few at a time, but the arrogance that you had to wait for ALL of them was annoying and rude.

Anyway, that was the only blight on a gorgeous winter day. Hope all of yours was sunny and peaceful!

Soaking 2-10

It feels like Oregon here. It has rained so much that the water is sitting everywhere in little ponds and lakes, even a couple of days after the last rain. This pic is of the American River again.

I have been working on my colorful afghan and ran out of a few colors, so I ordered them and now I am just doing what I can on it while waiting for the yarn to arrive. This picture is of the backside and you can see if you look the ends hanging here and there, so I am weaving them in and getting started on the border. I have finished all the squares and just have six that I need to do the last row on and in that last row the square is attached to the blanket.

Not much else going on, we have done a bit of driving around and getting our bearings. This last picture is of some moss on a deck….it is so very green and growing in a dome shape…cute.

Nothing going on

Yesterday was laundry. Today we took a walk for the first time in weeks. Larry’s heel is finally feeling better, we didn’t go as far as we would normally. We found the back way to Safeway from here which has a Starbucks…nice.

I have decided to quit the white death….again. Sugar. I did quit 8 years ago and then eased back into having it again…it just isn’t needed or good for the body and I LOVE the stuff.

Our big excursion today we went to the bank and to the Health Food Store. It is very windy and pouring rain tonight. We had neighbors move in next to us, hopefully they are considerate neighbors.

Not much else is really going on.
