Day in LA, Part 4, Hollywood Memorials 6-7

In 1993 The Hollywood Station put their own Memorial Walk of Stars in front of the station; I was there for the dedication, so Dad has a star there. I was saddened to see that one had been added since I was there.

We hooked up with an Officer from the division and he drove us up to the famous landmark HOLLYWOOD sign. We started out in his car, but decided to take Cliff’s unmarked car so we didn’t get stopped or involved in an incident. I had Larry take my picture before I got back out of the black and white, as I have been smart enough to never end up in the backseat of one before this…smile!

Now most anyone can hike up the switchback road to the same place we ended up, but it is steep and long; and the road is gated so only certain vehicles are allowed up there. Because we were special we were driven all the way to the top…way cool! Because this was Officer Isabella’s territory he knew where he was going and those narrow, steep little windy roads up there in the hills were taken at top speed…it reminded us of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride at Disneyland…ha ha ha. We were a little queasy by the time we got back to the bottom!

It was pretty breezy like most hilltops, and there was the usual LA haze but it was still quite the sight to see most all of the LA basin spread out at our feet and then just looking over the other side of the crest we could see the Burbank/Glendale basin.

After we survived the wild ride we stopped on Hollywood Blvd., where the city had put a star memorial to all the Hollywood Division’s fallen officers a few years ago. Andrea and Ian were at that dedication. It would be wonderful if they didn’t have to add any more little rectangular name plates. This star shares the corner with Elvis Presley and The Beatles….esteemed company.

Then it was back to the station to drop off our great driver and then we were headed over to the Air Support Division of the LAPD for our sunset ride along!!! Part 5…
