Natural Entertainment 7-12

Another wonderful weather day.  Still a bit windy, which makes it hard to take pictures of the flowers...when they are dancing they just look blurry in photos, but the breeze is pleasant.

Most every day we have some kind of wildlife to observe.  Yesterday Larry noticed this buzzard sitting on a rock across the drive preening.  They fly very low sometimes through the yard, but most often glide around higher up...we have quit looking up when we see a shadow move over us...just a buzzard.  They are pretty cautious birds so as I expected after he saw me and heard the camera he took off.  They are easily as big as eagles, their talons aren't as large (they don't have to struggle to keep their wiggling prey) and of course they are lacking a feather or two on their heads.  They are experts at catching the thermals and I have read that hawks and eagles look to where the buzzards are gliding so they too can catch them.

This morning I looked out the sliding door and there was Jack Rabbit and a short distance away was Mama Deer and Fawn.  The Fawn was watching the Rabbit with great interest and you could see that it was curious as it inched closer to the rabbit.  The Rabbit tossed its ears as if to say come and get me....the Fawn started towards Rabbit and then Rabbit took off up the hill.  The Fawn kicked up its heels in a little twist and ran after the Rabbit for a bit...the whole time Mama Deer just munched on the discarded roses on the burn pile.

I also witnessed our gestapo hummingbird poke its beak into another birds backside...it was minding its own business just sitting on the fence.  These hummingbirds are crazy guard birds...

The fallen zucchini plant had up-righted itself, the sweet peas and roses scenting the air with their heavenly scent...with the pine trees singing in the wind and our animal friends...that is my kind of entertainment!  Heaven on Earth right here...Cool!

Amazing pictures of the buzzard, I've never seen one that close in nature. An also of the flowers, of course!
