Nasty Day 2-17

Whew was today a nasty nasty weather day.  The wind was gusting, it poured rain most all day and even tried to turn to snow...well it did snow enough to coat the satellite dish.  The snow was like huge fat fluffy feathers or big leaves.

It is amazing to watch how flexible these oak and pine trees are in the gusty winds.  The upper branches were slapping back and forth in a frenzy and knowing how hard oak wood is, it was a wonder that they don't all shatter and break into a million pieces.

Needless to say we stayed inside...it never got above 38 degrees all day and with the wind blowing the house seemed colder and drafty.

It was a pajama day for Ian, he watched cartoons all day until the dish loaded up with icy slush and we had no signal until it melted and slid off.  While waiting for that to happen Ian and I went to my art table and we painted a picture.  His picture turned out bigger and brighter than mine.  Then we baked brownies...yummy.  By then the TV was back.

Larry never set foot outdoors at all and that is a good thing...he finally had a day of rest.  Even yesterday he was out in the bad weather shoveling mud.  I went out to take care of some deck plants and then I went out late this afternoon after the rain finally quit and tossed out some more bird seed.  Not five minutes later I heard Larry exclaim about a stampede.  I guess the deer had been down the hill and must have been watching me toss out the birdseed and ran up the hill to Hoover away on it.  They were like locusts and poking at each other with front feet jockeying for position.

This was an intense storm, we were happy we never lost power and after so much wind and rain we were glad when it quit this evening.  The resorts must have gotten a good bit of snow with all the snowy rain we got here at 1,600 feet.
