Mississippi 10-1

Another gorgeous day. We were on the road by 9:30. We took state route 80 west into Mississippi and then took 59/20 to Meridian, MS. We drove 170 miles today and got into the campground around 1:30. We are at Lake Okatibbee north of Meridian. It is a Army Corps of Engineers campground that is also a passport member. Full hook-ups for $7.75 and a stunning view! It is sooo very peaceful here. No highway traffic, no trains, no cows, no sirens, no jets, just lovely bugs, squirrels, birds, leaves fluttering to the ground and water lapping the shore. Nice trade-off in sounds!

Larry had to wash off lovebugs again and in just a few hours the side of the trailer was covered in little ants. The ants traveled the hose highway we provided them. After washing them off the trailer, Larry sprinkled bug killer around anything that was touching the ground…all the tires, landing gear, hoses, wires, etc.

It is hot here, in the low 90’s. Will be in the 60’s overnight. The humidity isn’t too bad so it will be bearable I think without the a/c. This whole side of the country is covered in beautiful trees. Pines, maples, locusts, oaks and many I don’t know. We are just amazed by the trees! Everyone said how pretty they thought Tennessee and Kentucky were, but I don’t think I’ve seen an ugly state yet…wait, Nevada is one only a mother could love. The towns are not very prosperous looking down here, but the countryside is lovely.

We haven’t decided if we will stay here two nights or just one. It is lovely to be in the woods and not in an RV park for a change.
