Louisiana 10-5

In the month since leaving my sister’s in Ohio we have been through nine states, our ninth one being Louisiana.

We left the plentiful and large bugs behind in Mississippi this morning around 10:00. There were lots of ants and it was real humid so we decided to press on. The campground there was beautiful though and it was tempting to stay. We decided to bypass Natchez, there is a lot of history there but we didn’t feel the need to go check it out.

We followed Highway 84 west into Louisiana as we crossed the Mighty Mississippi River. It is a huge river. Highway 84 bounced us nearly all the way across the state. We saw lots of cotton fields, which are being harvested right now and quite a lot of timber with logging operations going on and mills and cattle. Jenna was a cute little town and we stopped and took a break in Trout. The highway was a bouncy mess in several places and we had to go slow or bounce our shocks flat. It was almost like being in a stagecoach! I was worried about the stuff in the trailer, but everything was fine, jostled, but fine. We hit I-49 west of Natchitoches (NAK-a-tish is how it is pronounced) and went north about 17 miles to the Country Livin’ RV Park in Ajax, La. We will stay here until Sunday. We traveled 170 miles today.

These leafless flowers are everywhere here in the south and we don’t know what they are, but they are pretty. This was the first time we could stop near some and take their picture.

Larry went out after dark tonight and didn’t come back in white-faced. He went out last night before bed to check for ant trails on the trailer and came back in pale. He told me he had never seen so many “peeds” and huge ones. I asked him what the heck a “peed” was. He said, centipede and millipede and they were everywhere and huge! And he had walked through a spider web too, which was probably traumatic enough! So our present home isn’t as peaceful and quiet, but we hope to remain bug free. Haven’t seen too many ants trucking up the walls or across the counters this evening, so hopefully we are almost done with them.

While we are here we need to decide which way we want to go. We can’t make up our minds if we want to go to Branson or not or just head for Oklahoma. I’ll keep you posted of course!
