Milan, NM 10-20

Now this is shocking, I know, but we were on the road by 8:30. Yes, that is before 9 in the morning. Only happens when there is a time change in our favor…or when we have to catch a ferry at an ungodly hour. We drove an entire mile down one of the main streets of Tumcumcari and parked in front of Denny’s and went in and had breakfast. We split a slam breakfast and we were back on the road in a half hour.

We got onto I40 heading west. Today was going to be a big mileage day, but being all interstate we figured it would go pretty quick…except for the miles and miles of I40 under construction that consisted of two lanes with a speed limit of 45. Add to that a heavy head wind and we were starting to think we might not make it to Albuquerque. The scenery kept us from going to sleep. Other than the wind it was a beautiful day.

It took us over a half hour to get fuel at the Flying J west of Albuquerque. There was only one RV pump open (we don’t do the big truck hoses) and two rigs in front of us and whoever was at the pump apparently didn’t know how to work the pumps. The guy just in front of us didn’t take very long at all and then it was our turn finally. Then it took us some minutes to get out of the station because apparently all the clueless people pulled into the station at the same time as we were trying to get out. People just go through life in their own teeny tiny little bubbles with nary a concern of how they might be affecting someone else. It is truly amazing and even sadly entertaining. Once we got west of Albuquerque and the mountains we didn't hit any more road construction and the wind wasn't quite as fierce.

We continued onto our destination. All these pictures turned out really well considering we were flying down the highway and they are taken through the window. Even the ones I used the telephoto on are surprisingly clear.

We are in Milan, NM squished between the highway and the train tracks. When we first got in, the train went by about every 15 minutes and it blows its horn right here but the other RV park here was right against the highway right at the off/on ramp and I hate hearing the big-rigs cranking and grinding as they start and stop. Lately the train hasn’t been coming as often so we’ll probably be o.k. tonight. We left at 8:22 and traveled 264 miles and landed at 2:30. This is a Good Sam park so we saved a little off the regular price of $13.00. So it was $11.05 with tax and we have full hook-ups with cable. All RV parks should be this price. So many are way over priced…just our opinion.
