circus breakdown 9-5-08

What these traveling circus’s do on a daily basis is really incredible, the amount of equipment and trucks that they move, setup and then breakdown all in the coarse of a day is amazing, UNLESS you live and are trying to sleep right next to where they are doing their thing.

After the last show and the people were out of the tent they started collapsing the bleachers; bang, bang, banging, one upon the other. This is around 10 p.m. which is when it is quiet time in most areas, but not here apparently….they kept on with their breakdown until all was put away. The tent was down by eleven and after we had gone to bed we could hear the poles being loaded on the trucks…clanging and banging as they hit the truck bed. This went on well into the night. We left the windows closed so we weren’t sucking in dust and diesel fumes from the trucks and generators and with the a/c on helped mute the noise just a little.

At 5:30 a.m. they started pulling out, driving right past our rigs in a seemingly never ending stream, for an hour….I wish I had kept count but it had to be over a couple dozen rigs. Then the fairgrounds people were doing something with loaders after the mass exodus. It probably wouldn’t bother us so much if they didn’t charge top dollar to be here and then have no consideration for all us paying customers.

So not enough beauty sleep for me last night, we took a walk and Larry later ran errands. It was in the 100’s again today. Andrea stopped by on her way home from work, and we walked up to her house later and spent the evening with them. They were all there tonight, Andrea, Ian AND Will. It was still sunny and hot when we walked over there and was dusk and still hot when we walked back home.
