Dry camping at Zim's 8-12-07

We hit the road at 8:30 this morning. This first picture is of the Snake River as we cross it leaving Marsing. It is a clear sunny day today. The next picture is of the countryside as we headed north on highway 55. Just north of Banks we had our toast along side the Payette River, which is picture number three.

The fourth picture is showing the brown hills, looks a lot like California or a lot of other states we have passed through. Then the fifth pic is of some of the many rapids along the Payette River, there were lots of places like this and we even saw more aggressive ones, but I couldn’t get a picture of them. Then the sixth picture is of the Payette where it was very wide and calm.

We drove 160 miles today and cruised through the State Park at McCall on Payette Lake. We thought about staying there, but the sites were tight with tree limbs that were to low and tight turns so we kept on down the road. McCall is quite the summer resort town as it is right on the lake. It is what I imagine Chester would try to aspire to be if the town was actually lakefront. Lots of hotels and rentals and shops and bicyclists, a bustling summer resort. The seventh picture shows one teeny part of McCall.

This last picture is our view from where we are dry camping for the night. We are north of New Meadows on highway 95 at Zim’s Hot Springs for $10. It is seven bucks a piece to swim in the mineral pools, but I doubt we’ll go swimming. At the top of the mountains in the last picture is smoke from one of the fires, not a cloud. We saw the smoke from two and with the wind today I imagine the smoke towers will be large.

So the rest of the day we are just kicking back and takin ‘er easy. I think I’m gonna take a nap.
