Today's Entertainment

While we were having our breakfast out in the garden Gracie seemed busy sniffing the ground and listening to the ground around our japanese maple tree.  Apparently there was a mole under there.  She spent over an hour stalking.  She opened four of the tunnels around the tree, but then she heard it move across the path.  I was standing there so I saw the dirt start to move.  She dove in and started digging, stopped but nothing.  She dug and stuffed her head in the ground and left it there for half a minute.  She dug around for awhile but today she came up empty snouted.  She listened and watched for a couple of hours.

There is a Nuttall's woodpecker that spends hours on the seal of the work trailer window, hops along, pecks and then flies across the window like it thinks it should be able to go through it.

Then later I was still sitting under the pear tree when I heard Larry's shop door open and I heard him say, "Whoa, big snake".  Not a rattle snake though!  yay!

We just let it meander away.  After it made it part way across the open, heading for the meadow Larry leashed up Gracie to see what she would do when she saw the snake.  She saw that snake and jumped back and took a very wide detour around it.  We were happy to see that she remembers her snake training from last summer.

We are going to have a hot few days and I suspect we'll just hang in the shade and wait it out.
